Fulfills What Needs?
Allium vegetables, such as garlic, onions, leeks and chives, have been used throughout history as folk remedies. Population and clinical studies show that regular consumption of a variety of Allium vegetables has beneficial effects especially as we grow older. Research suggests the amount of allicin contained in one clove of fresh garlic offers extensive benefits and support to our bodies. Scientists have found that many of the Allium compounds, in addition to allicin, help promote optimal well-being. Despite the benefits, people are still sometimes discouraged from ingesting Allium vegetables for fear of repeating and/or unpleasant breath odour. This has contributed to the popularity of garlic supplements even though some have the same problem. However, for a garlic supplement to be effective it must contain both alliin and allinase, for the body to obtain allicin in the intestinal tract to facilitate garlic's many benefits to the body.
